What Tree Removal Costs Around Midland in 2026

Rough planning ranges for the jobs we arrange in Midland and the City of Swan, what pushes a price up or down, and how to compare two quotes fairly.

Price ranges at a glance

There is no official price list for tree work in Western Australia. The ranges below are our own cautious 2026 planning bands in Australian dollars, as a guide only. They exist so you can set a budget and sanity-check a quote. They are not quotes. The real number always needs an on-site look.

Job Typical situation 2026 guide (AUD)
Small tree removal Under about 6 m, open yard, easy access $400 to $1,000
Medium tree removal 6 to 12 m, some climbing, near a fence or shed $1,000 to $2,500
Large tree removal Over 12 m, sectional work near a house or wires $2,500 to $6,000
Tree lopping or pruning Deadwood, roof clearance, crown reduction $300 to $2,000
Stump grinding Per stump, depending on size and access $150 to $600
Palm removal Depending on height, species and disposal $400 to $2,500
Bamboo removal Canes and rhizomes, depending on area $500 to $4,000

Some jobs will fall outside these ranges, in both directions. A very large gum over a house with no machine access can cost more than the top band; a tiny tree in an open paddock can cost less than the bottom one.

What moves the price

Size and condition of the tree. Height matters, but so does trunk diameter and how much timber is in the canopy. Dead trees can be cheaper to cut but slower to climb safely.

What is underneath. A tree in an open yard can sometimes be felled. A tree leaning over a roof, pool or the neighbour's shed must be taken down in sections on ropes, which takes longer and needs more people.

Access. If a truck and chipper can park close, the job is faster. If everything has to be carried through a narrow side gate or down steps, labour time goes up. Midland's older blocks often have narrow side access; scarp blocks in Swan View and Bellevue often have slopes and steps.

Power lines. Work close to lines needs people qualified for it, and sometimes Western Power must be involved.

The stump. Leaving it, grinding it and digging it out are three very different prices.

Wood and waste. Taking all the wood away costs more than leaving logs for firewood. Palm fronds and bamboo cost more to dispose of than normal green waste.

Ground. Wet clay near the rivers in winter, gravel and rock near the scarp, or soft sand in the north each change how machines get in and how long stumps take.

How to compare quotes fairly

  1. Line them up item by item. Check each quote covers the same trees, the same method, the stump, and the clean-up.
  2. Check what happens to the wood. "Remove tree" may or may not include taking the logs.
  3. Look at the stump wording. "Cut to ground level" is not the same as "ground 200 mm below".
  4. Ask about cover. We ask the contractors we work with to hold the licences and insurance the job needs; ask to see the certificates before work starts.
  5. Be wary of a very low price that does not say what it includes.

Saving money without cutting corners

  • Do several jobs in one visit to share the set-up cost.
  • Keep the mulch for your garden beds rather than paying to have it removed.
  • Keep logs for firewood if you have a use for them.
  • Choose grinding over full stump removal where nothing will be built.
  • Consider whether a good prune would solve the problem instead of removal.

Seasonal timing

Demand for tree work tends to rise before summer, as people sort deadwood and fire preparation, and after big winter storms. Non-urgent work booked outside those peaks can be easier to schedule. Price is still set by the job, not the calendar.

Council costs

If a tree needs council approval, the City of Swan may charge a fee for the application. We do not publish figures for that because they change; check with the City before work starts. For heritage and river-flat questions, see our Swan Valley and Guildford guide.

FAQs

Questions people ask before they commit

Are these prices quotes?

No. They are planning ranges as a guide only. Every tree is different, and the actual price comes from a contractor looking at the job on site.

Why do two quotes for the same tree differ so much?

Usually because they are not quoting the same job. One may include the stump, removal of all the wood and sectional work near the roof, while the other leaves the logs and assumes the tree can be felled. Compare line by line.

Does doing several trees at once save money?

Generally yes. Getting the crew, chipper and grinder to the property is a real cost, and it is only paid once. Ask for each item as a separate line.

Is storm or urgent work more expensive?

It can be. Broken wood under tension takes longer to rig and cut safely, and there is often a roof, car or fence underneath. The price still comes from an on-site look.

Do I pay for the quote?

No. Quotes arranged through this site are free and there is no obligation to go ahead.
