Tree work for Midland and the City of Swan, arranged properly
Tree Lopper Midland is a referral service for tree removal, tree lopping, stump removal, stump grinding, palm removal and bamboo removal across Midland and the surrounding City of Swan suburbs: Guildford, Woodbridge, Midvale, Swan View, Stratton, Jane Brook, Viveash, Bellevue, Helena Valley and Ellenbrook. You tell us about the tree, we pass the job to an independent local contractor, and they quote it free and on site. You deal with them directly from there.
We do not pretend to be a crew with a yard full of trucks. What we do is make sure the first conversation covers the things that cause trouble later: what exactly is being cut, how the wood leaves the block, whether the stump is part of the price, and what cover the contractor carries. We ask the contractors we work with to hold the licences and insurance the job needs, and we suggest you ask to see them before anyone starts the saw.
Why tree removal in Midland is its own kind of job
Midland sits where the flat country of the coastal plain meets the foot of the scarp, and that shows in the trees. On the river side, around Guildford, Woodbridge and the Helena River, the ground is heavier loam and clay laid down by floods over thousands of years. Trees there grow big and fast: flooded gums, paperbarks, sheoaks along the banks, and old exotic plantings such as peppercorns, figs, Cape lilacs and palms that were put in a century or more ago. Towards Swan View, Bellevue and the hills edge the soil turns to gravel over rock, and marri, wandoo and jarrah take over. North in Ellenbrook it is grey, sandy and often damp in winter.
Each of those settings changes the job:
- Heavy river soils hold water in winter, so a large tree can lean or uproot after a run of wet fronts. Machines also sink, which affects how a stump grinder or loader gets in.
- Gravel and rock on the scarp make stump removal harder and slower; roots wrap around stone, and grinding often beats digging.
- Sand in the north drains fast, so root plates are wide and shallow, and a tree that looks sound can fail in a strong winter wind.
- Old suburbs have big trees jammed against sheds, fences and power lines, with narrow side access that rules out a truck in the backyard.
Summer adds heat. Midland can sit well above the coast on a hot afternoon, and the east wind off the hills dries out deadwood quickly. That is why a lot of the work booked here is about deadwood and limbs over roofs before the warm months, and about fallen or split trees after the first big winter storms.
What we can arrange
Most requests fall into one of six jobs. Each one has its own page with the detail and a list of what the quote should cover:
- Tree removal for dead, leaning, split or simply unwanted trees, including sectional removal where there is no room to drop the tree.
- Tree lopping to reduce height and weight, lift branches off the roof, clear the service wire and take out deadwood.
- Stump removal when the stump and roots have to come right out for a slab, pool or driveway.
- Stump grinding when you only need the stump below the surface for lawn or garden.
- Palm tree removal for date, Canary Island, cocos and Washingtonia palms, or a frond and seed-stalk clean-up.
- Bamboo removal for clumps and running bamboo that has got under fences or into paving.
If the tree has come down in a storm, or a limb is hung up over the house, call and say so first. If anything is touching the power lines, keep clear and ring Western Power before anyone else.
Before you book anything
A few minutes of checking saves money and arguments. Look at whether the tree might be on a heritage-listed property (common in Guildford), whether it is actually on your side of the boundary, and whether it is a street tree on the verge, which belongs to the City of Swan. Our guide to Swan Valley and Guildford trees covers the heritage and river-flat questions in more detail, and the cost guide shows realistic 2026 price bands so you know roughly what to expect before anyone visits.

Six jobs, one way of quoting them
![]() |
Tree Removal | Whole trees taken down, in roped sections where the house, shed or fence is close, with the wood chipped or carted. |
|---|---|---|

Tree Lopping | Height, spread and weight reduced, limbs lifted off roofs and wires, and deadwood taken out of old gums and peppercorns. |

Stump Removal | The stump and its main roots dug or levered out where a slab, pool, driveway or retaining wall is going in. |
![]() |
Stump Grinding | Stumps chewed down below the surface so the spot can be turfed, mulched or planted again. |

Palm Tree Removal | Date, Canary Island, cocos and Washingtonia palms removed, or cleaned of dead fronds and seed stalks. |
![]() |
Bamboo Removal | Running and clumping bamboo cut down and its rhizome mat dug out, so it stops pushing under fences and paving. |
How a job usually runs
- You describe the tree. Ring or use the form. Species if you know it, rough height, what sits underneath it, and how a truck or trailer gets close.
- Someone looks at it. A local contractor visits, checks the trunk, the lean, the access and anything overhead, and talks through options, including whether lopping would do instead of removal.
- You get a written quote. It lists each tree, the method, the stump, the clean-up and what happens to the wood. No obligation to go ahead.
- The work is booked and done. On the agreed day the crew sets up, protects what needs protecting, does the work and rakes up. Walk the yard with them before they pack the chipper.
What we ask of every job
A price in writing
The quote names each tree, what is cut, what happens to the stump and what leaves the block, so two quotes can be compared line by line.
Cover you can check
We ask the contractors we work with to hold the licences and insurance the job needs. Ask to see them before work starts.
Cuts that suit the tree
Lopping is done back to sound growth points, not to bare stubs that sprout weak regrowth over the next summer.
Wood and waste sorted
Branches chipped, logs cut to length or taken away, and the yard raked. Say if you want the mulch or firewood kept.
Gear and jobs you will see on the day
Stock photography showing the kind of equipment used, not a particular local job.
Questions people ask before they commit
Do I need City of Swan approval to remove a tree in Midland?
It depends on the property. Heritage listings, conditions on an earlier development approval and some planning areas can bring a tree under council control. Street trees on the verge belong to the City. If you are unsure, ring the City of Swan before booking a large removal; it is a short call and it protects you.
What is the difference between tree lopping and tree removal?
Lopping takes part of the tree away (height, spread, a heavy limb, deadwood) and leaves the tree standing. Removal takes the whole tree down to the stump. Many enquiries that start as removals end up as a good prune, and the person quoting should tell you when that is the better option.
Is the stump included when a tree is removed?
Only if the quote says so. A normal removal cuts close to the ground. Grinding the stump below the surface, or digging it out completely, is a separate line, so check the wording before you compare prices.
How much does tree removal cost around Midland?
It ranges from a few hundred dollars for a small tree with open access to several thousand for a large gum over a house. Our cost guide sets out 2026 planning bands, but the real figure always comes from an on-site look.
What hours can I call?
The phone line is open Monday to Sunday, 6am to 8pm. Outside those hours, use the form and you will be contacted the next time the line is open.
